Scholarship Opportunities

To qualify, you must be a Missouri resident that is a first year student enrolled full-time at S&T with a 3.0 or greater cumulative GPA from high school. Your household EFC has to be 12,000 or below as determined by the FAFSA. You have to be majoring in a program in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE).

A $3,000 scholarship shall be awarded annually and is renewable as long as the recipient(s) remain in good academic standing and continue to meet all other criteria. Recipients of this prestigious award will have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor and will have access to additional funds to support professional development activities.

The TEACH Grant is specific to undergraduate students, graduate students, teacher certification students, current or prospective teachers and teachers who are obtaining graduate degrees. (Missouri S&T currently only offers this grant to eligible Junior and Senior students.)

This grant awards future educators up to $4,000 a year toward teacher-education costs for full-time enrollment. The award is prorated for students who are enrolled less than full-time each semester and may be reduced per sequestration adjustments. The cumulative maximum is $16,000 for undergraduate students and $8,000 for graduate students.

Eligibility

Students must have a 3.25 cumulative GPA and must agree to teach in a high-need field in a low-income area. You must agree to complete four years of qualifying teaching as a condition for receiving the grant. If you don't complete your teaching service obligation, the grant will turn into a loan that you must repay in full, with interest.

This scholarship will be awarded annually . The amount awarded is determined by the amount of money available. Recipients may apply for the scholarship in subsequent years. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Student has completed at least 75 hours of college credit (including 8 hours of education classes) with a B or above
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or above and an ACT of 22 or greater
  • Attended Missouri public elementary and secondary schools for 13 years
  • You will need to submit a paper indicating financial need, philosophy of teaching, and a desire to teach in Missouri public schools

This scholarship is intended for students who have declared majors in physics, chemistry or mathematics, with an emphasis in secondary education. Scholarship recipients are selected each semester by an external scholarship committee. You may be asked for a short interview. This interview will last approximately fifteen minutes and will be hosted by a committee of 2-3 retired educators. Education students who qualify will receive emails each semester with specific deadlines and instructions for applying.

Eligibility requirements:

  • A copy of your transcript must be turned in with your application, and interest in teaching high school physics, math and/or chemistry must be shown by your transcript 
  • FAFSA is required
  • Financial need will be considered
  • Applications are made available in the Education office
  • Even if you have received the scholarship in previous semesters, you must reapply

Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $3,000 and a complimentary American Association of Physics Teachers Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply. Applicants must declare their intent to prepare for, and engage in, a career in physics teaching at the high school level and must, at the time the scholarship funds are received by the student, be:

  • an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college or a university; or a high school senior accepted for such enrollment.
  • pursuing, or planning to pursue, a course of study leading toward a career in physics teaching in the high schools.
  • showing promise of success in their studies, and
  • a citizen of the United States of America.

Applications can be submitted online, accepted at any time, and will be considered for recommendation to the Board of Directors at each AAPT Winter Meeting. All applications in which all materials, including letters of recommendation, are received by December 1 will be considered for recommendation at the winter meeting of the AAPT Board of Directors.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to college or university students preparing to teach secondary school mathematics.

Eligibility:

  • Persons currently completing their sophomore year of college, scheduling for full-time study at a four- or five-year college or university in the next academic year and pursuing a career goal of
    becoming a certified teacher of 7-12 secondary school mathematics. 
  • The applicant might also be pursuing a full-time graduate degree for the purpose of becoming a certified teacher of 7-12 secondary school mathematics

The Edward G. and Helen A. Borgen Elementary Teacher Scholarship is a one-time preferred amount of up to $1,500 awarded to one student who is twenty-five (25) years of age or older. Applicants must be studying to teach at the elementary school level. Applicants must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be at least a college sophomore, and attend or plan on attending an accredited college or university.

The award is based on academic merit and is not automatically renewable, however, recipients may reapply for consideration as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

The Kummer Vanguard Scholars Program is designed to support success as a student at Missouri S&T and to expand thinking around the five core areas: Entrepreneurship, Research, Design and Build, Social Impact and Engagement and Leadership.

The program provides scholarships to up to 400 undergraduate STEM scholars each year. Students from around the world will be selected based on academic and non-academic criteria. Each Kummer Vanguard Scholar will receive $1,000–$3,000 a year for up to four years, and the scholarships may be combined with other university scholarships to provide a broader array of financial support for students.

Program Eligibility:

  • First year students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.4 on an unweighted 4.0 scale and a 26+ ACT/1240+ SAT score*.
  • New transfer students must be transferring in 24 college level, transferable credits at the start of the entering term and have a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Pursuing a STEM major at S&T, including biological/life sciences, business and management systems, chemistry, computer science, economics, education, engineering, information sciences, mathematics, physics, psychological science.

*If you were admitted as a test-optional student, information that you provided at the time of admission for test-optional students will be used in lieu of the test score.

The Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant is a program designed to provide adults with the education and skills needed to enter the workforce in fields that are in high demand.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be either

    • At least 25 years old, or

    • If you are a student, have not attended high school or a postsecondary school in the last two years, or

    • If you are an apprentice, have not been enrolled in a postsecondary program in the last two years, unless the program relates to your current apprenticeship.

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

  • Be a Missouri resident, an active duty member of the U.S. military transferred to Missouri, or the spouse of an activity duty military member.  If you are a student who is a Missouri resident, you must have been a Missouri resident for at least two years prior to receiving the grant.

    • Apprentices need to be a Missouri resident, but do not need to be a resident for at least two years prior to receiving the grant.
  • Have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA), if applicable.  Check with your provider to see if a FAFSA is required to determine your Fast Track award.

  • Have a federal adjusted gross income as documented on your Missouri 1040 tax form (or federal 1040 form if you’re active duty military) of either:

    • $80,000 or less if your tax filing status is married filing jointly, or

    • $40,000 or less for any other tax filing status.

  • For students, enroll in an eligible program at least half-time. 

  • For apprentices, be formally participating in a U.S. Department of Labor-approved and DHEWD designated apprenticeship and meeting any requirements defined by your apprenticeship provider. 
  • Have not yet received a bachelor’s degree.

The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Missouri Scholarship (Teacher Education And Compensation Helps) is a scholarship and compensation opportunity for educators in licensed child care programs – center, group and family. T.EA.C.H. MISSOURI is part of a nationwide effort to the increase quality of care in child care programs through increased education. Missouri is one of 21 states offering this very successful program.

The four components of the T.E.A.C.H. MISSOURI program are:

  • Scholarship – A contract between the recipient, sponsor and T.E.A.C.H. MISSOURI with a paid percentage of the cost of tuition and books from each.
  • Education – Contract year covers 9-15 credit hours over three consecutive semesters.
  • Compensation – Recipients receive a $450 bonus from T.E.A.C.H. MISSOURI for each completed contract.  Several scholarship models include a possible $200 bonus match or a 2% raise from the sponsoring employer.
  • Commitment – Recipients agree to complete 6 to 12 months of continued service to children at their sponsoring program or in the field of child care after the educational year (varies by scholarship model).

The Goals of the T.E.A.C.H. MISSOURI Scholarship:

  • To improve the quality of early childhood care and education BY
  • Increasing the education level of early childhood educators AND
  • Increasing the compensation for early childhood providers THEREBY
  • Increasing the retention rate of early childhood teachers THUS
  • Improving the quality and continuity of care provided for our children and their families AND
  • Creating a model of partnership in Missouri early childhood programs.

This scholarship is for female students with 60 college credit hours completed.

*Must submit FAFSA at fafsa.gov and have financial need and have no relation to any Missouri S&T faculty member, full-time staff member, or other personnel. Preference to women with added personal obligations or a woman whose college education was interrupted and who is returning to complete an undergraduate degree.

Other eligibility requirements:

  • Current female student
  • Minimum 60 credit hours completed
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours
  • Satisfactory academic progress.
